1966 Ferrari 365P Berlinetta Speciale

The 365P Berlinetta Speciale was built from the 1965 P2 racing car, chassis no. 8971, and debuted at the 1966 Paris Salon.



Just like my favourite supercar, the McLaren F1, the Ferrari 365P has a centrally located drivers seat. Only two cars were made.

The three-seater was the first car Sergio Pininfarina styled when he started working for his father, "Pinin'' Farina.

The 365P may remind you of the Dino, but the 365P is larger, as it's built around the bigger V12 engine and chassis of the 365P2 race car.

4390cc 24 valve Longitudinal V12 engine. 380 bhp at 7300 rpm.

Chair 777 Concept

This three-way chair is a cool idea. Organic in design, it offers three ways to relax in one chair.

The Northern California "Storms"

I'm surprised at what passes for a storm in California. Here in San Francisco it's been raining with a bit of wind. Hardly a storm. But hundreds of thousands of people had their electricity supply interrupted. Josh and Amy were without electricity for 30 hours! Here's the before and after photos of their backyard:




In Wellington this weather would be called a "cold front". It would just be a normal variation in the weather. So why does a bit of wind and rain cause so much damage here? It's because we plant so many none-native trees in our sandy soil. They grow well, but the soil can't support their mass. At the mere hint of wind, they topple over, taking power lines with them.

1966 Earls Court Motor Show - Export or Die

It was nice to see the cars from my childhood in this video from the British Pathe picture and film archive. Most of the cars shown were popular export models. My father drove a Hillman Hunter as his company car. My brother owned a Vauxhall Viva. The Cortina, Mini, Imp were popular cars. The Jaguars were much admired but quite rare.

CushTop by Belkin

Lani needed a new lap desk for her Sony Vaio, and the CushTop was an excellent choice.
She wrote about it on her blog:

"I originally looked at lap desks at Levenger, Stacks & Stacks, and Amazon. Most of what I saw was flimsy, uncomfortable, too big or too expensive.

"I then decided to head out to the nearest major office supply store Sunday afternoon, which is Office Max on Arguello Boulevard in the Inner Richmond district. I went over to where laptop storage and cases were and found exactly what I wanted, Belkin's "cush pad" (as seen in photo).

"The cush pad is washable and made of microfiber. The gap in the center can accommodate a mouse and battery pack [or the laptop power supply]. Most importantly, it's a sturdy, straight surface where the cushion absorbs heat from the laptop. It is primarily designed for non-desk use such as a chair, couch or bed. For me, it's the couch. I bought the pad in chocolate.

"I paid about $32 (including tax) for the pad. Computer superstore places like PC Universe sell it considerably cheaper, but for me, I didn't want to wait....
I really like my cush pad..."

Supporto Office Chair

The System Supporto (1976) by Frederick Scott looks to be a quality alternative to the more common and much imitated Eames Aluminum Group by Herman Miller.

In fact, Jonathan Ive, vice president of Industrial Design at Apple, chose the System Supporto chairs and high stools for his design team in Cupertino. If it's good enough for the designers of the iMac, iPod, iPhone....

Zoeftig Airport Beam Seating

The seating in waiting areas at airports is so comfortable that I could sit there for hours ... but I hope I won't have to.

I like the seating so much that I want to have it in my home.

It's all about the aluminium and black vinyl. Because they are designed for constant use, they are robust and versatile. They are a beam on which one mounts seats and tables. Each position can mount a table or chair.

Make mine a curved beam to fit our bay window, and delete the armrests!

TV Wall Mounts

The 47" LCD tv I bought in December will be delivered this Saturday, and now I'm forced to buy a wall mount for this monster.

I finally found a good selection here and here. I think we'll mount the tv on the living room wall that backs onto the bedroom closet. That way we can secure the mount through the wall and studs to support the rather heavy tv which we want to be able to swing out away from the wall.
